The Deosai National Park is a treeless wilderness at 4114 meters lying south of Satpara in Skardu, in the Gilgit-Baltistan province of Pakistan. The Deosai National Park is located in Gilgit-Baltistan province, in northern Pakistan. Deosai is accessible from Skardu District in the north and the Astore District in the west. Deosai means ‘the land of Giants’. The park is located on the Deosai Plains of the Gilgit-Baltistan geographic region. Deosai is a tourist attraction and lot of tourists who visit Baltistan go to Deosai as well. Deosai Plateau which is the second highest plateau in the world after the Chang Tang in Tibet. In local Balti language, Deosai is called Byarsa, meaning ‘summer place’. The plateau is located at the boundary of the Karakorum and the western Himalayas.

Shigar Fort

Located on the legendary route to the world’s second highest mountain, K-2, and known as Fong-Khar, which in the local language means the “Palace on the Rock”,  Serena Shigar Fort  is a unique 20 room heritage boutique hotel that offers guests the opportunity to experience the restored original architecture of the 17th Century Raja’s fort palace and previous home of the 20th ruler of the Amacha Dynasty whilst enjoying the modern amenities and services of an up market boutique hotel.

Cold Desert

There are sand dunes in Skardu around the Indus river. This desert stretches from the Khaplu Valley to Nubra Ladakh and Shigar Skardu valley to Zanskar, India, but the largest desert area is found in Skardu and Shigar valley. Locally called Biana Naqpo and Katpana biana, the Katpana Desert is located near Skardu Airport while Shigar desert is located on the way to Shigar valley.

Khaplu Palace

Khaplu Palace  is an old fort and palace located in Khaplu, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. The palace, considered an architectural heritage and a tourist attraction, was built in the mid-19th century, replacing an earlier fort located nearby. It served as a royal residence for the Raja of Khaplu.

Kachura lakes

The Kachura Lakes are two lakes in the Skardu District of Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan. The lakes, at 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) in elevation, are Upper Kachura Lake and Lower Kachura Lake.[1] The latter is also known as Shangrila Lake and is within a tourist resort named Shangrila Resort outside the town of Skardu.

Hunza Forts

Long ago the area now known as Gilgit-Baltistan was divided into a number of small, independent states. The wealthy Hunza kingdom was one such state and its rulers were known as Mirs. To the north, by means of possession of certain strategic passes, the Mirs of Hunza were able to loot caravans along the Silk Road, and to the south carry out raids to capture slaves. To protect their territory and express their power, the Mirs built fort-palaces, meaning a defensive fort that also functioned as living quarters for the ruling Mir and his family. There are two famous forts in the Hunza locality: Baltit Fort and Altit Fort.

Hunza Valley

Hunza is probably Pakistan’s most visited valley, by the tourists. It is a fairy tale land surrounded by beautiful rugged & snow capped mountains. The central Hunza known as Karimabad is basically a town of just 6 villages. The first main villages as you come from Gilgit on the main Karakorum Highway is Aliabad. There there are spectacular views of  Rakaposhi mountain (7788 meters), PTDC Motel Hunza and other small hotels are located on the main Karakorum highway here. Just above Aliabad on the hill are Altit and Baltit villages the heart of Hunza. There is a very interesting Bazaar and two Forts in Altit & Baltit Villages. The Baltit fort has recently been restored and converted into a guided museum.

Khunjerab Pass

The Khunjerab Pass is the highest paved international border crossing in the world and the highest point on the Karakoram Highway. The roadway across the pass was completed in 1982, and has superseded the unpaved Mintaka and Kilik Passes as the primary passage across the Karakoram Range.
